The International Forum Design, Hannover, Germany, is known internationally for the iF Awards, which began in 1954. Today, this award is considered one of the most important competitions in the world, attracting over 1,800 entries from 30 countries each year. The jury, composed of internationally renowned designers, critically examines and selects the work submitted and grant a seal of quality for the winners.

In 2005 the International Forum Design inaugurated the iF Material Awards, created to serve as a platform for new developments of importance in the world of materials. This year the only Brazilian work submitted in this category was the Pupunha plywood, which won the gold trophy and was the sole representative of Latin America among the winners.
