The Rewind series is a retrospective of Fibra Design’s works. This post is about the participation of Fibra at Oi MegaRamp event, occurred in São Paulo, Brazil. We are a young company, with just four years on the road. But for us, register each step taken is important, because we hope we still have a long path ahead.

On March 22th and 23th of 2008 occurred in São Paulo, Brazil, the Oi MegaRamp event. It was the first time that the MegaRamp was brought to Latin America. Renowned skaters disputed an unusual championship.   The challenge consisted in drop a huge 27 meters high ramp towards a 16 meters long jump. Speeds of  80 km/h and lots of adrenaline were the main attraction. Amazing jumps and flights that were more like an air ballet filled the Megaramp’s mornings and afternoons. Not even the rain was able to stop the public’s excitement.

Fibra Design Sustentável was responsible for the trophies manufacturing for the event. They were made inspired on the big scales of the ramp. At the end of a competition the winner received a huge trophy-ramp or huge trophy skate-parts.  They were made with bamboo laminate and pupunha plywood, both sustainable materials developed by Fibra. It was the touch of sustainability to a competition crowded by falls, scratches and maneuvers. The prizes have an art applied with silkscreen technique. The trophies production’s process was totally handcrafted.

Fibra Design also was present with an exhibition stand to show the trophies, Folha Seca Skate, the EcoSurfboard and other green products. As we are not known by a lot of people, and we were not selling anything, initially the public seemed uninterested.  But when everyone knew that the exhibited trophies were the real ones, everything changed. A legion of teenagers, children, fathers and mothers became focused listeners to explanations about  sustainable processes and products. The products were not for sale, they were there to illustrate Fibra’s pursuits and goals. Besides that, people started to take pictures with the trophies that sooner would be at the hands of the winners.  It was a great opportunity and challenge to be able to explain Fibra’s work and sustainability matters to a greater public.

Bob Burnquist, the brazillian skater was the main attraction of MegaRamp, and took home a lot of prizes. To finish our participation properly, Fibra’s gave to Bob Burnquist a Folha Seca (Dry Leaf) Skate. The skate is made of gren materials and Brazilian fibers.

We hope that he enjoyed.
